The ANC Youth League’s (ANCYL) Deputy President Desmond Moela has condemned the outfit’s members who have romantic relationships with members of opposition parties.
Addressing more than 500 party supporters in Emjindini township near Barberton, Mpumalanga, over the Valentine’s Day weekend, Moela also discouraged the league’s members from having multiple partners.
“It is wrong to have boyfriends and girlfriends in the oppositions. You must make sure that your boyfriend or girlfriend is within the ANC,” said Moela.
He told the supporters that having one than more romantic partner also contributed to the country’s HIV infection rate. “It’s unacceptable to have more than one girlfriend or boyfriend. We need to be responsible with our lives. If not careful, you will die young and grow up in the grave. HIV/Aids its there and it’s alive,” he said.
Party members braved the heat and cramped themselves in a hall without any air conditioning. Moela, who is also provincial chairman of the ANCYL, is not new to controversy.
In February 2014, a photo circulated on social networks depicting Moela flanked by semi-naked women in branded underwear. The pictures, which resemble an American hip hop CD cover, showed the women wearing underwear bearing the acronym “ANCYL” while a smiling Moela looked on.
This led to the provincial mother body structure distancing themselves from the behaviour.
